You may need a good short-time technical writer--someone who combines writing skill with technical know-how and product knowledge.

If we were sitting face-to-face, chatting in your office, you’d ask me questions.  Let me try to answer a few of those questions right here.

“What are your qualifications as a technical writer?”

As a freelancer, I have completed contract work for several companies and individuals.  The companies included Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC), Computer Sciences Corp. (CSC), and Hull Electronics.  I have also worked as a staff technical writer at Wavetek Corporation.

I have worked with individuals both to develop online documents in portable document format (PDF) and to design web sites and content in hypertext markup language (HTML). And my clients are satisfied with their online and software Help files I develop.

The San Diego based magazine, ComputorEdge, has published a few of my descriptive and review articles.

“Do you have a technical background?”

My experience in the electronics industry as an electronics technician and automatic test equipment programmer have prepared me for writing in the electronics and software fields.  To gain this experience, I earned an A.S. degree in Electronics Technology, then worked at Datagraphix and Action Instruments.  While working at Datagraphix as an electronics technician, I found that I was assigned quite frequently to write test procedures for the manufacturing test technicians.  Figuring that I found my real calling, I went back to school--San Diego State University this time--and received a B.A. degree in English with a Technical Writing certificate.

Most important to you, I’m a technical writer who doesn’t need “hand holding” to complete an assignment.  You can give me work and rest assured that I will finish the job with little hassle on your part . . . I am an independent, self-starting worker.

Technical writing isn’t something I do to pass the time at home between TV commercials.  Rather, it’s my bread and butter.  So I put all my skill, knack, and know-how into every piece of writing.  I will complete all writing assignments via my amply furnished home office.  My office includes most hardware needed to perform all tasks:  4 PCs (networked); USB flash drives, DVD-RW drives and external hard disks;  image scanner and laser printers.  Software includes the latest versions of Microsoft Word, Office; Adobe Acrobat and PageMaker; and various internet communications, Help authoring aids, such as Help and Manual, Komodo Edit, and graphics programs.

“Do you have experience in my field?”

Take a look at some of my writing samples.  Do they seem “right up your alley”?  If not, give me a call or send me an e-mail message, and I’ll send my resume and additional samples that are closer to your area of interest.

“What kinds of assignments do you handle?”

I cover the full spectrum.  About 60 percent of my business is creating and updating user’s, reference, other manuals and product application notes.  The rest involves creating a wide assortment of marketing communications materials, including press releases, data and specification sheets, brochures, newsletters and articles.  Since 1992, I have been helping individuals and small businesses develop online documents in portable document format (PDF) and to design web sites and content in hypertext markup language (HTML). Plus, I excel with online and software Help.

My specialty is quick, small jobs and my ability to write clear, credible, persuasive copy about a wide range of technical products and services.

I am able to quickly to grasp complex marketing problems and understand sophisticated technologies.  Clients appreciate the fact that I can contact engineers, scientists, systems professionals, and other specialists, ask intelligent questions, and speak their language.

I can’t always predict how many responses my marketing collateral will pull for you, if that’s what you have me work on.  But I can--and do--guarantee your satisfaction with the copy and all completed work you receive from me.

“Do you offer an entire package, including design and production of camera-ready copy?”

As a writer, I am mainly selling my writing services.  I  deliver “copy” or text in manuscript form which you can have designed in-house or by a professional graphic artist.  But if you wish, I can also complete desktop-publishing-designed pages for you that are “camera ready” for printing.  Please see some of my samples.

"How much does it cost to hire you for a project?”

For any writing assignment--manuals, data and spec sheets, press releases, brochures, letters, web work, and so on--just let me know what you have in mind and I’ll quote you a price. Below, my Schedule of Estimated Fees gives typical prices for a variety of different projects.

For answers to your other possible questions and more, such as, “Who are your clients and what do they say about your writing and counsel,"  “How long will it take you to write my copy," “What happens if we want you to revise the copy," and “How do I order from you," please send me a message.
